Garlic Scapes
The flowering bud of a garlic plant, Garlic Scapes are a delicious
treat in the early season and snipping them helps direct the plants
energy back into making big delicious bulbs! Scapes retain all of the
wonderful flavor profile of garlic, making them a great addition to
salads, side dishes, seasoning mixes and more. Below are some
ideas on using scapes.
Garlic Scapes in Side Dishes
Use scapes in all your side dishes to add flavor and texture. Chop into small pieces and add to your saute pan with oil or butter and cook over medium heat for a few minutes until they soften. A great way to use them is to add them to a pan of sauteed greens with a bit of Parmesan cheese.
Raw Garlic Scapes
Use in a salad, on a sandwich or in a dip! Make sure to chop them fine, so they are not stringy when you eat them. They add a nice crunch and garlic based flavor!
Garlic Scape Pesto
Chop garlic scapes and add them to a food processor (this helps them chop easier without stringing in the processor). Add Parmesan Cheese, Olive Oil, Salt, Pepper and your favorite Nut (optional).
We suggest a cup of scapes, 1/4 cup of parm cheese and olive oil, a sprinkle of salt, pepper and 1 tbsp. of nuts.
Use in place of pesto in any recipe !
